Bada Mutton

We were at our usual Biriyani point, Hotel Ali Star, one of the closest eatery near our university. After successful ordering of a full plate 'bada mutton' biriyani and a half portion of 'bada mutton' talawa, we proceeded to a little game of preferences. "Meat or chicken?"  - "Meat." "Meat, chicken, mutton or fish?" - "Mutton." "Why so?" - "Mutton is an exotic meat." "What makes it exotic?" - "It is expensive." I laughed at his innocent reply. "Okay. Mutton or meat?" - "Ayyo. Void #1

This is an attempt at constructing what I feel, the void left behind by my friend. I am doing this for purely selfish reasons. an attempt perhaps to look at how this void is consuming me. The first few memories that I can associate with him is seeing an awkwardly handsome boy dangling his arms while running. I think I first noticed him during the orientation programme for the Masters programme. Someone introduced me to him saying hey this guy is also a Malayalee. I was prepared for the common small talk "Naatil evideya?" but was in a surprise as Rishi said something about not being a mallu despite being born as one or it was something else, I am not sure. Coherence is my worst enemy. I remember how he detested the whole association of being Malayali but he would fondly say a cute "ayyo". When asked about mother tongue in a course, he preferred Hindi and explained how he never related to the whole 'being a Malayali' vibe given he grew up in a non-Kerala ...
